Not sure if I answered this question yet. Best job ever?
I would have to say of all my jobs logging as a skidder operator was the best job ever. I believe it fulfilled the hunter gather basic need. My boss was hilarious and it was unlike anything that I have ever done. It was a confidence booster for sure to have learned how to drive equipment, learned a bit about equipment, be totally out of my comfort zone and just surrender to the fact that I knew nothing and there is no way for someone to give you an instruction sheet to follow. You just have to do it and learn. I quit once and my boss Kent was like lets just give it a little bit more time. He admitted to having asked me to do the job in a more advance area (a thinning vs a clear cut) and he would figure out something a bit easier. Well it was a little easier but I also got a bit better. It was great but it didn't pay the bills. My biceps got to be bigger than my Dad's with all the chainsawing that I did too. Thinking of logging still brings a smile to my face and puts a spring in my step.
